Pain is my teacher.
Not a friendly compassionate one,
but scary and threatening most of the time.
The pain reminds me when something is not right, is not done right. The punishment was, and is almost instantaneous.
My teacher might have forgotten its purpose nowadays.
The pain is almost constant and has very little to teach anymore, except as a reminder of time passing inexorably
and the body weakening.
The teacher has grown old and weary and I with it.
I have grown somehow affectionate towards it
and it seems more scary to replace it with a new teacher. With a new lesson to learn.
The old and familiar versus the new and unknown.
Letting go of the pain is more challenging than one might think.
